Transient thrombopenia after intravenous injection of certain fatty acids.

چکیده

Intravenous injections of various fatty acids in rabbits caused marked thrombopenia lasting 1-2 hr. The most active saturated fatty acids were myristic acid (14:O) and lauric acid (12: 0). Activity decreased with increasing and decreasing chain length, but behenic acid (22 : 0) had, on a molar basis, activity similar to that of lauric acid. Of the unsaturated fatty acids, oleic acid (18: 1) was active only at high doses, whereas linoleic (18: 2) and linolenic acid (18: 3) had an effect comparable to palmitic acid (16 : 0). Intraperitoneal administration of the fatty acids caused no thrombopenia. The thrombopenic effect of the fatty acids was greatly reduced if the solutions were mixed with serum before injection.

Kinetic analysis of the oxidation

Two healthy men with high working capacities were injected intravenously with palmitate-l-14Cand NaHI4CO3 on two occasions while they were performing strenuous exercise on a bicycle ergometer. From analysis of l4COz in expired air after injection of NaH14C03, rate constants and compartment sizes describing a three-compartment system for COZ were determined algebraically. These data were combine...

The Effects of Simvastatin on Free Fatty Acids Profile in Fructose-fed Insulin Resistant Rats

Backgrounds: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disease and free fatty acids, as signaling molecules, can play a crucial role in the development of it. Different free fatty acids, through various cell membrane receptors, induce different effects on metabolic pathways and thereby affect insulin sensitivity. Simvastatin is a cholesterol decreasing drug prescrib...

Determination and study the fatty acid contents and their seasonal variations by temperature of a dominant bivalve(Callista umbonella) of Haleh Creek

In this study fatty acid contents, because of the importance in human’s life, and their seasonal variations of a dominant bivalve of Haleh Creek were determined for the first time. Fatty acid identification was done by GC-MS (Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry) method. After collecting and dissecting the species from the shells, samples weighed and frozen for further experiments. All the samp...

Rapid cellular enrichment of eicosapentaenoate after a single intravenous injection of a novel medium-chain triacylglycerol:fish-oil emulsion in humans.

BACKGROUND Dietary deficiency in n-3 (omega-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) prevails in Western populations and potentially results in adverse health outcomes. To circumvent the slow n-3 PUFA incorporation in phospholipids of key cells after oral supplementation, a new preparation for intravenous bolus injection was developed with 20 g triacylglycerols/100 mL of a mixture of 80% medium-c...
